Nothing is reportedly preparing to expand beyond smartphones and audio products with a new wearable category. According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Nothing is working on AI-powered smart glasses that could debut in the first half of 2027. Continue reading ahead to know what the report has revealed.
Nothing AI smart glasses launch timeline and strategy
The report suggests that CEO Carl Pei, who was earlier hesitant about smart glasses, is now pushing for a multi-device ecosystem. This change indicates a broader ambition to compete in emerging AI hardware categories rather than staying limited to smartphones.
Nothing is also said to be developing new AI-focused earbuds for launch later this year. The company has already been experimenting with AI features in its software, including tools that allow users to create and share widgets using AI-assisted coding.
Expected features and competition
The upcoming smart glasses are expected to include cameras, microphones, and built-in speakers, similar to offerings from Meta Platforms such as the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. However, there may not be a display, which suggests the focus will be on audio, capture, and AI-driven assistance.
These glasses will likely depend on a connected smartphone and cloud processing to deliver AI features. The aim is to enable task automation, contextual assistance, and a more personalised user experience without heavy on-device computing.
Nothing is also expected to bring its signature transparent design language to the glasses, possibly incorporating visual elements similar to its existing products. This could help the brand stand out in a space that is becoming increasingly competitive, with players like Apple, Google, and Samsung also working on similar devices.
With the smart glasses market still evolving and no clear leader in advanced AR experiences, Nothing’s entry could add fresh design thinking and competition.
