GPT-5.3 Instant update aims to make ChatGPT conversations more natural

OpenAI has announced an update to the most widely used model powering ChatGPT. The new version, called GPT-5.3 Instant, aims to improve everyday conversations by delivering more accurate answers and smoother interactions while reducing unnecessary refusals and overly cautious responses.

According to OpenAI, the new update focuses on refining tone, relevance, and the overall flow of conversations. These are aspects that strongly affect everyday usage but often do not appear clearly in benchmark tests.

With GPT-5.3 Instant, responses are designed to feel more natural and focused, reducing awkward phrasing or overly dramatic statements that previously disrupted the conversation. Earlier versions such as GPT-5.2 Instant were sometimes criticised for sounding overly defensive or making assumptions about user intent.

The latest model aims to address those concerns by cutting down on unnecessary refusals and lengthy disclaimers before answering questions. When a query can be answered safely, the system is expected to respond directly rather than adding excessive warnings or explanations.

Another improvement lies in how the model works with web information. GPT-5.3 Instant is designed to better combine online data with its own reasoning so responses remain contextual and relevant. Instead of simply listing links or summarising search results, the model attempts to highlight the most important details first and present them in a clearer way.

Accuracy improvements and availability details

OpenAI also claims the update reduces hallucinations across different types of queries. Internal evaluations indicate a drop in factual errors in areas such as law, finance and medicine. The company says hallucination rates decreased by more than 26 percent when the model accesses web information, and nearly 20 percent when relying on internal knowledge.

In addition to factual improvements, GPT-5.3 Instant is also positioned as a stronger writing assistant. It can move more easily between practical tasks and creative writing, helping users draft content or refine ideas without losing clarity.

GPT-5.3 Instant is now available to ChatGPT users and developers through the API under the model name gpt-5.3-chat-latest. The previous GPT-5.2 Instant model will remain accessible for paid users in the legacy model picker for three months before it is retired in June 2026.
