Realme 15 Pro review

Come for the style, stay for the two-day battery

Realme 15 Pro review

Who said smartphone innovation is dead? Massive silicon-carbon batteries have become the new norm, managing to cram ridiculous amounts of mAh into razor-thin phones. Even cheaper phones are shipping with IP69 durability, a rating once associated with industrial gear. Plus, curved screens are back in a big way, promising to make giant 6.8-inch phones feel much better in the hand.

Realme went ahead and mashed all these cool new features into one device, the Realme 15 Pro. For Rs 31,999, the specs certainly look impressive on paper. So we took one for a spin to see how it really performs, and we share our thoughts in this detailed Realme 15 Pro review.

Realme 15 Pro: Design and display

Realme has nailed the design of the 15 Pro. It’s wonderfully clean and minimal, and we were especially happy that it avoids any plastering text like “AI 50MP Triple Camera” over the back. Our Flowing Silver variant looks stunning, with a sort of liquid marble effect and subtle gold accents. Best of all, that glossy finish is surprisingly good at hiding fingerprints.

The curved edges make this big 6.8-inch phone feel comfortable to hold during day-to-day usage. It also helps that it’s seriously thin at just 7.7mm and weighs a featherlight 187g. The finishing touch is the RGB light ring around one of the camera lenses. It’s a cool bit of flair that you can customise to pulse for notifications or when you’re charging.

The screen itself is just as impressive. It’s sharp, packed with vibrant colours, and gets plenty bright for outdoor use. The headline feature is its super-fast 144Hz refresh rate, but there is a slight catch. You’ll only see that top speed in a few of Realme’s own apps, as most games and other applications are limited to 120Hz for now.

Realme 15 Pro: Cameras

The camera setup on the Realme 15 Pro is an interesting one. On the back, you get a capable 50MP Sony IMX896 main shooter and a 50MP OmniVision OV50D ultrawide, with a depth sensor helping out on portrait shots. It does skip a dedicated telephoto or macro lens, choosing to focus on the performance of its primary cameras.

The main camera captures photos with really pleasant colour, though they have a distinctively soft finish. This happens because the sensor sometimes needs a hand balancing very bright and dark areas, and the software can be a little enthusiastic with its processing, which can smooth over the finest details.

However, cut to nighttime and the camera does a 180-degree-turn, instead choosing to oversharpen images a smidge. That said, we are nitpicking here, and these images are pretty good for the phone’s price tag.

Realme 15 Pro: Software and performance

The phone runs Realme UI 6.0 on top of Android 15, and it’s packed with handy multitasking tools and some genuinely clever AI photo editing tricks. And despite what it’s named, make no mistake, because this is the same skin powering OnePlus and Oppo.

So if you’re, say, an OxygenOS fan, you’ll feel right at home. The only issue we had was the pre-installed bloatware. Fortunately, they can always be uninstalled. Realme is also promising two big Android version updates and three years of security patches, which is a bit of a letdown for a phone in this price segment.

Under the hood, the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip keeps everything running smoothly. Daily tasks are a breeze, and it handles games like BGMI at a slick 90fps without issue.

What’s truly impressive is the cooling. This phone stays remarkably cool under pressure thanks to its vapour chamber, so performance remains steady no matter what you throw at it. One random thing we didn’t like about the phone was its haptics motor. It feels cheap and buzzy, and isn’t crisp at all.

As for the battery, the 7,000mAh unit lasts noticeably longer than the more standard 5,000mAh sizes we’ve grown accustomed to. During our testing, we could easily get up to two days of usage. Even when pushed hard, the phone’s battery will last over a day.

Unboxed Take: Who should buy the Realme 15 Pro?

The Realme 15 Pro is a fantastic mid-ranger that gets almost everything right. It packs a gorgeous design, a brilliant display, and smooth performance into an IP69-protected thin and light body. The only letdowns here are the lack of a telephoto lens and that cheap haptics motor. Given these factors, we rate the phone at 4/5.
