Marks Xiaomi's return to the segment after a brief hiatus

Redmi Note 14 SE 5G coming soon with a promise of killer specs at a killer price

Xiaomi is set to release another phone in the Indian market after a brief hiatus. The company just announced the Redmi Note 14 SE 5G will make its debut on July 28th. This news comes as a bit of a surprise while everyone was looking toward the horizon for the eventual Redmi Note 15 series.

Redmi Note 14 SE 5G: What's known so far

The company is hyping this release with promises of “killer specs” at a “killer price”. On paper, the specs sound solid for the budget segment. The phone will sport a vibrant 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a slick 120Hz refresh rate and an impressive peak brightness of 2,100 nits. Your screen will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and feature a modern in-display fingerprint sensor for unlocks.

Under the bonnet, the device runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 7025 Ultra processor. It will be configurable with up to 8GB of physical RAM, which can be supplemented with another 8GB of virtual RAM. Photography is handled by a 50-megapixel main shooter using Sony’s LYT-600 sensor, complete with optical image stabilisation for what should be decent low-light captures. A respectable 5,100mAh battery keeps the lights on.

Now here is where things get strange. If this spec sheet sounds familiar, it is because it is a near-perfect match for the Redmi Note 14 5G that launched in December last year. This move brings back memories of the old Redmi Note 11 SE, which was essentially a repackaged Redmi Note 10S. It seems Xiaomi might be reviving its old playbook.

So what is actually new here? The company is making a lot of noise about the audio. It claims the dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support will offer a 300 per cent volume boost, though it is unclear what this is being compared against. There is also a flashy new red colourway shown in the promotional images.

This whole launch is a part of a celebration for Xiaomi’s 11 years in India. We will have to wait until the official launch next week to discover the price and other details.
