Rise of the Ronin released for Sony PS5: Here’s everything you need to know

Samurai-based action games set in Feudal Japan seem to be having quite the year in 2024. Weeks after we learned of a Ghost of Tsushima PC port, Rise of the Ronin, a much-awaited title in the genre has released for the Sony PlayStation 5.

Apart from Katana-fueled action, this RPG (Role Playing Game) is set the be bar for action games set in the Edo period, and will be an interesting title ahead of other games in the series, including Assassin’s Creed Red. Here’s all you need to know about the game.

What is Rise of the Ronin?

Rise of the Ronin is an action RPG set in feudal Japan, where players can create their own custom characters and deck them with several weapons of their choice. Set in a historic version of Yokohama, Kyoto and Edo, the players’ characters must live the life of a warrior in a troublesome land, as they interact and make their choices, siding with or against NPCs.

The game also brings elements that will remind fans of the Assassin’s Creed games, including a grappling hook and a glider, both of which can be used to traverse more efficiently. If you prefer going about the classic way though, you can always ride a horse to your next destination.

Who can play Rise of the Ronin?

Rise of the Ronin is a PS5 exclusive title, at least for now, which means only those with a Sony PlayStation 5 can purchase and play the game. The game will also work on the rumoured Sony PS5 Pro version, set for a launch later this year.

However, there is currently no news on a PC port in the work for Rise of the Ronin, which would allow the game to be playable on gaming laptops and desktops. We have seen Sony’s PS5 exclusives come to PC, but these titles can sometimes take up to a year or more for a port.

Examples are Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered, which came to PCs about two years since the game’s 2018 release, or Ghost of Tsushima, which is getting a PC port next month. Many popular games that released in 2023 are still yet to get a PC port, including names like God of War: Ragnarok.

Those who do have a PS5 can head to the PlayStation Store to grab their digital copy of Rise of the Ronin starting today. The game is currently priced at Rs 4,999 for the standard version, while a Deluxe version of the title is available for Rs 5,599.
