Samsung Galaxy S24 rumour roundup: Here’s everything leaked ahead of launch

It’s certainly been a busy year for Samsung, with regards to smartphones. We saw the Galaxy S23 series coming out in February, followed by the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5 in July. Now, while a lot of hype seemed to surround the latter two devices, all eyes are back again on Samsung’s next S-series flagship, likely to be dubbed the Galaxy S24. Ahead of its expected launch early next year, here’s a roundup of everything that’s leaked so far.

Variants

Similar to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, Samsung’s newest flagship line-up of smartphones is expected to be offered in three variants – a base vanilla variant, a mid-range “Plus” variant, and a top-of-the-line Ultra variant. Whether we will also see a Fan Edition (FE) similar to what we’ve seen from the S20 onwards, closer to the end of the device’s lifecycle, only time will tell.

Processor

There has been a lot of chatter around whether the next generation of Samsung’s flagship S-series smartphones will be powered by their in-house Exynos chipsets, or if they will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest SoC for flagships – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. However, rumours increasingly suggest that the vanilla and the Plus variants may be powered by an Exynos chipset, while the Ultra variant will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

RAM and storage

Coming to the RAM on the devices, a rumour from a tipster suggests that the base variant will come with only 8GB of RAM, while the Plus variant could come with either 8 or 12GB of RAM, depending upon the storage variant one chooses. The Ultra variant is expected to be offered with either 12 or 16GB of RAM, depending upon the storage variant one opts for.

Coming to storage, all of Samsung’s new S-series devices are expected to be offered in a 256GB variant, with storage options going all the way up to 1TB for the Ultra model.

Design and display

Rumours suggest Samsung’s new flagship smartphones may feature largely the same design, albeit with two crucial differences. One is the fact that the Ultra variants may ditch the curved displays in favour of a flat panel. Secondly, the devices are also expected to sport an iPhone 15 Pro-like titanium frame.

However, at the same time, the next S-series line-up of flagship smartphones is expected to retain the thin bezels and centre-aligned punch-hole cameras, which are distinctive features of Samsung’s devices.

Coming to the displays, all three models are expected to sport the usual AMOLED displays, with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, this time around, the display on the base and mid-range Plus variant may also be an LTPO display, resulting in adaptive refresh rate capabilities.

The base model is expected to come with a be 6.1-inch screen, while the Plus model is expected to get a 6.6-inch screen, both with 2,500 nits of peak brightness. The Ultra model, on the other hand, is expected to get a 6.8-inch display with 1,440 x 3,120 pixels resolution, and 2,800 nits of peak brightness.

Camera

Not many changes are expected in terms of the camera setup on Samsung’s upcoming flagships. The vanilla and the Plus variants are expected to have a similar 50MP primary camera as their predecessors did, in addition to which, there may now be a 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP 3x telephoto, zoom lens as well.

Coming to the top-of-the-line Ultra variant, it is expected to also feature the same 200MP primary camera as its predecessor. This time around however, it is expected to get a 10MP 3x zoom and a 5x 50MP zoom lens instead of the previous 10MP 10x telephoto camera, which the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S22 Ultra, and Galaxy S21 Ultra had as well.

Battery and charging

As per a Sammobile report, the mid-range Plus variant could feature a 4,900mAh battery, while the more premium Ultra variant will get a 5,000mAh battery. Little is known regarding the vanilla variant’s battery capacity as of now.

Speaking of charging, however, users considering making the switch to Samsung may be disappointed, as the devices are expected to still feature the same 45W fast charging support.

Rumours strongly suggest that Samsung’s latest flagship devices are expected to be unveiled sometime in January this year, a departure from their usual February launches. Either way, we can’t wait to see what Samsung has in store for us, with its next flagship devices. Can you?
