Samsung has finally kicked off 2024 with a bang, launching a bunch of new devices at its Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event. This is headlined by the Samsung Galaxy S24 series smartphones. The series includes the top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+, and the vanilla Galaxy S24. Missed the event? No worries! Here’s a quick look at the new Samsung Galaxy S24 series phones.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: What's new?

Succeeding the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the new phone features Corning Gorilla Armor toughened glass for increased durability, along with a Titanium casing, just like the Apple iPhone 15 Pro series.

The phone sports a 6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz LTPO panel that can go from 1-120Hz. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and comes with 12GB RAM as standard. However, you do have three storage variants – 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.

Coming to the cameras, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra sports a 200MP main camera with OIS. This is joined by a 50MP telephoto sensor with 5x zoom, and another 10MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom. These two telephoto lenses also feature OIS support. Lastly, there is also a 12MP ultrawide camera. On the front is a 12MP camera for selfies and video calls.

The phone runs Android 14 with One UI 6.1, and other features include IP68 dust and water resistance and support for both Sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G. The phone also comes with a 5,000mAh battery and 45W wired charging with support for wireless and reverse wireless charging. Of course, you also get S-Pen support, just like the S23 Ultra.

Samsung also launched successors to base Galaxy flagships. The new Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ both sport the Exynos 2400 chip, and come with a 6.2-inch FHD+ and 6.7-inch QHD+ display respectively.

Both phones come with a 50MP main camera with OIS, along with a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom. However, the telephoto camera on these phones doesn’t come with OIS.

While the Samsung Galaxy S24 comes with 8GB RAM and either 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage, the Galaxy S24+ comes with 12GB RAM and either 256GB or 512GB storage. The smaller S24 packs a 4,000mAh battery, while the S24+ comes with a 4,900mAh battery.

Only the Galaxy S24+ gets support for 45W fast charging, as the Galaxy S24 sticks to 25W charging speeds. Other features like wireless charging support and IP68 certification apply to both phones.

Samsung Galaxy S24 series AI powers

There are a couple of new highlights across the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. the first of these is a host of on-device AI powered features. These include real-time translations in calls and other apps, as well as other features like advanced photo-editing with generative editing support.

Then, there is the new focus on software, as Samsung has promised seven years of Android updates and seven years of security patches for all its flagship devices, starting with the Galaxy S24 series. With the move, Samsung one ups the Apple iPhones, which are known for providing years of consistent updates for its devices.

Samsung also announced ‘Circle to Search’, a new way of searching for on-screen content by simply circling items on screen, something that can also be done with the S-Pen. Circle to search will work with entire images, or even certain parts of images, allowing users to search for elements like what shoes a person is wearing in a picture by simply circling it.

Lastly, Samsung also announced Quick Share, a unified sharing service that merges Samsung’s own sharing service with Google’s Nearby Share. This makes Quick Share a common sharing feature all Android phones will eventually be able to use, similar to the AirDrop feature on iPhones.

Samsung Galaxy S24 series pricing

The Galaxy S24 and S24+ will be available in multiple colour options, including Onyx Black, Marble Gray, Cobalt Violet, and Amber Yellow. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, on the other hand, will be available in Titanium Gray, Titanium Black, Titanium Violet and Titanium Yellow colours.

Prices start at USD 799 (approximately Rs 66,400) for the Galaxy S24 and go up to USD 1,300 (approximately Rs 1,08,000) for the top-end Galaxy S24 Ultra.
