Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 series puts Samsung back in the budget-tablet market

The budget tablet segment has always been populated by more brands than the higher, more premium tablet market. For consumers, this means more tablets to choose from, and better competition. Adding to this competition is the new Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 series, which aims at bringing better performance to students and other entry-level tablet users. Looking for a new tablet? Samsung Galaxy Tab A9

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 comes with an 8.7-inch TFT LCD screen with a refresh rate of 60Hz. The tablet is powered by the MediaTek Helio G9 chipset and packs a 5,100mAh battery.

For photography and video calls, there is an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera. The tablet comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, but there’s also a higher variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. It also supports up to 1TB external storage via a dedicated MicroSD card slot.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 comes with Android 13, with Samsung’s OneUI 5.1 skin on top. If the specs didn’t already give it away, the Galaxy Tab A9 is targeted at students and others looking for a tablet for basic usage. While it should be powerful enough for everything from videos to casual games, if you want a little more oomph, you should look at the A9 Plus variant.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 Plus

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 Plus is a more powerful version of the A9. It sports a larger 11-inch LCD screen, which now comes with 90Hz refresh rate. Powering this device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset, clubbed with a larger a 7,040mAh battery. The Snapdragon 695 gives the tablet an edge in connectivity, supporting 5G networks as well.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 Plus also has multiple storage variants, featuring a 4GB variant with 64GB storage and a 6GB variant with 128GB storage. While the tablet features the same 8MP rear camera as the A9, you get a 5MP front camera here with slightly better resolution for calls and pictures.

The Galaxy Tab A9 Plus is a great option for those looking for a lightly more powerful tablet. It is a better choice for content consumption with a larger screen, but a slightly more powerful processor also means games and heavier apps load up slightly faster.

Both tablets also feature Dolby Atmos speakers and support Samsung’s range of tablet accessories including the Book Cover and the Book Cover Keyboard Slim.

Pricing and availability

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 is priced starting at Rs 12,999, while the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 Plus starts at Rs 18,999. While you can get other options like the Lenovo Tab M10 Plus and the Redmi Pad for that price, the new Galaxy Tab A9 series may have the edge if you’re used to Samsung’s OneUI interface and like the features it offers.
