Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo: Our favourite features

Samsung’s flagship gaming monitor is more than just a wide screen

Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo: Our favourite features

Samsung is not new to displays, and the brand’s Odyssey series has been a good example of that. Year after year, the Odyssey monitors have set the benchmark for the ultimate experience in immersive gaming. The new Samsung Odyssey is not very different – it is packed to the brim with features, and is the one product to take your gaming setup from amateur to professional levels.

We got immersed in the Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo, one of the largest in the series, and here’s a list of our favourite features from the monitor. Let’s go!

Ultrawide display

What you will notice first about the Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo’s main strength is its massive 57-inch display panel. With a 32:9 aspect ratio, this panel stretches across most gaming desks. Unless you have a desk or space long enough, the only way you can use this monitor is by wall-mounting it.

When it comes to immersion, the Odyssey G9 Neo is a dream for gamers. Its vastness is game-changing on PC titles that support this ultrawide resolution. I’ve played Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered on my 27-inch monitor as well as a 55-inch TV, but none came even close to the experience of the Odyssey G9 Neo.

Not only can you see pretty much the entire NYC skyline from the top of the Avengers’ Tower or the Empire State Building, but swinging through the streets of Manhattan has on this monitor has been the closest I have come to actually feeling like Spider-Man. I expect the experience should be the same with other titles that support this resolution, and I absolutely cannot wait to try out Ghost of Tsushima’s PC port on this beauty.

1000R curvature

The Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo swallows you into the game, and the large and wide display panel is only half the reason this works. The other half, is the fact that this massive panel is actually a 1000R curved one. Yes, there are other curved monitors that do this on a budget. No, this isn’t like one of those monitors.

With a display this large and a curve this intense, the Odyssey G9 Neo practically wrapped around my line of sight when I was in front of it, even though I maintained a safe distance so as to not lose my eyes while swinging through New York. This feels uniquely different from a large flat TV, for instance, as every square-inch of the monitor feels like it has been meticulously positioned to accurately face me. As a result, viewing angles are not a problem, and colours across the 57-inch panel are consistent.

Infinity Core lighting

I think I’ve painted a good picture of what to expect with a monitor like this, but the Odyssey G9 actually takes it to the next level on the back as well. A large circular lighting panel separates the monitor from its stand and can be customised to your lighting.

If your desktop setup is decked out with RGB lighting, this panel is great, allowing the monitor to aesthetically fit in with the rest of the setup. I’m not one for too much RGB though, and I preferred to keep the lighting off after the first few hours.

Next-level multitasking

While a monitor like this best used for gaming, the Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo is also a great monitor for multitasking. The aspect ratio allows you to open more than the standard three programs that Windows allows you with its 50-50 view, and still have enough screen space for them all.

You can also connect multiple sources to the Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo and have the monitor easily switch between them, or make use of its picture-in-picture mode to show you both, effectively making it a dual-monitor, minus the barrier in between.

Cable management

A small but important addition to keep your desk setup clean, cable management is one of those underrated features on monitors today. Thankfully though, the Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo does have a small strap underneath the stem behind the monitor. This is wide and strong enough to hold a few cables in place together, especially ideal if you’re going to have multiple devices connected at the same time here.

Those were our favourite features of the Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo gaming monitor. Which of these features did you like the most? Let us know in the comments below!
