Samsung is letting Siri get control your smart home routines through a massive update on the SmartThings app. So now you can now use Apple’s voice assistant on your iPhone or HomePod to trigger all those automations you’ve built inside Samsung’s ecosystem.
A new update brings Siri Shortcuts to Samsung's ecosystem
This update is a huge quality-of-life boost for any household that uses both Apple and Samsung devices. Samsung is calling it a way to “bring peace for mixed OS households”.
You can now do several new actions. That “Good Morning” routine you have in SmartThings to fire up the coffee maker and adjust the lights can now be triggered with a simple Siri command.
The same goes for a shared “Leaving Home” routine that locks your doors and arms the security system, or a “Goodnight” command that dims the lights and tweaks the thermostat for sleep.
This move is part of a bigger, industry-wide push towards interconnectivity between devices — even if they are from different ecosystems. In fact, Samsung explicitly states that it is “bridging the gap between Galaxy and Apple“, which is a pretty big olive branch.
But Samsung hasn’t stopped here. SmartThings also now throws some love at the Apple Watch. On the Watch, you can now access and control your full device list and even your preset device groups right from your wrist.

And on the iPhone side, the Live Activities feature is now also more useful. It lets you view and control up to five of your most recently used gadgets, like your robot vacuum or air purifier, without even unlocking your phone.
