Samsung’s next foldable frontier

Samsung triple folding phone in the works, likely to launch late in 2025

After years of whispers and renders, Samsung is finally putting it all to rest. Its long-anticipated tri-fold smartphone isn’t just a rumour anymore. It’s real, it’s in the works, and if all goes to plan, it’ll be folding into our hands by the end of 2025.

At Unpacked 2025, Samsung unveiled its new range of foldables including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the company also confirmed that its triple folding phone is, in fact, under development. Here’s what we know so far.

Samsung's tri-fold phone could launch at the end of 2025

TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business, confirmed in an interview with The Korea Times that Samsung is “working hard on a trifold smartphone with the goal of launching it at the end of this year.”

He noted that while the hardware is nearing readiness, Samsung is still ironing out the finer details like usability, design, and even the name.

So yes, the final moniker is still up in the air, but reports suggest the company is toying with the title ‘Galaxy G Fold’, a nod to the hinge design, which allegedly takes the shape of the letter G. Whether that sticks or not, one thing is clear; this is a major evolution in Samsung’s foldable playbook.

Though specs are under wraps and official renders are nowhere in sight, early speculation points to a device with three folding panels, essentially bridging the gap between phone, tablet, and possibly even something with laptop-like ambitions. Think accordion-style mechanics, but in Samsung’s signature polished hardware language.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because Huawei beat Samsung to the punch earlier this year with the Mate XT, the first tri-fold phone to hit the commercial market; albeit with a price tag north of $2,800 (approximately Rs 2,40,000).

But Samsung isn’t one to shy away from refining a category it helped define. After all, the company practically set the blueprint for mainstream foldables with the original Galaxy Z Fold. And while the Galaxy Z Fold may have turned heads back in 2019, this triple folding phone could flip the script all over again.
