Starlink officially confirms India pricing ahead of residential service launch

Starlink has officially confirmed its residential internet plan for India, offering the first clear look at what customers can expect once the satellite service becomes available. The company has confirmed the monthly charges, hardware requirements and trial benefits, setting the foundation for the company’s upcoming commercial rollout. Additional details, such as business plans and launch timelines, are expected to follow soon.

Starlink has listed its residential plan at Rs 8,600 per month, confirming its premium positioning in the country. To activate the service, customers must also purchase a hardware kit priced at Rs 34,000.

This package includes a satellite dish, router and mounting accessories. Starlink is offering a 30-day trial period, allowing new users to evaluate the connection before committing.

The final pricing is notably higher than early expectations, which suggested a lower monthly tariff, and signals the company’s focus on offering a highly reliable service to regions where traditional networks struggle.

Starlink states that its satellite system is engineered to operate reliably in all weather conditions and aims to deliver more than 99.9 percent uptime. Unlike fibre or 5G broadband, which depend heavily on ground infrastructure, the satellite-based network can reach remote, mountainous or sparsely populated areas where wired connections remain inconsistent or unavailable.

The setup is described as straightforward, requiring only basic plug in installation, making it accessible for households that lack access to conventional internet services. For many regions that face frequent network disruptions or lack last-mile fibre deployment, Starlink could serve as an alternative that offers broader coverage and a more stable connection when terrestrial networks falter.
