Vivo X300 may launch in India running Origin OS

Vivo and iQOO are reportedly preparing to swap out the Funtouch OS on their Indian smartphones in favour of their China-exclusive skin, Origin OS. The news comes from an online tipster, who recently claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that the change is “confirmed”.

Funtouch OS may be on its way out

While we should probably wait for an official announcement, this isn’t the first time this rumour has surfaced. In July, it was widely reported that the Vivo V60 could launch with Origin OS, but that never really materialised. Hence, we advise you to take this news with a pinch of salt.

Vivo will likely introduce Origin OS on its high-end phones first, such as the upcoming Vivo X300 series, before the new software makes its way to mid-range and budget devices. This all comes as Vivo gets ready to launch the brand-new Origin OS 6 in China on October 10. Based on Android 16, it’s set to debut on the Vivo X300 and X300 Pro phones, which launch just a few days later.

But if indeed true, this move would be a pretty big deal for Indian users. It would finally align their software experience with the one offered in China, creating a unified interface across key markets. The latest iteration packs significant upgrades too.

According to a sneak peek from Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao, Origin OS 6 introduces a major design upgrade built around a concept called “Light & Shadow Space,” which focuses on creating a more natural and comfortable feel through enhanced lighting effects.

The update also brings a totally redesigned control centre, new charging animations, and customisable lock screen clocks.

Vivo says the changes are more than just skin-deep. The company is promising major improvements to smoothness, long-term fluidity, and how the phones handle heavy-duty tasks.
