Vivo and Samsung just launched their foldable phones in India. The Vivo X Fold 5 offers a slim and light design, yet it packs a massive battery. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, on the other hand, is ultra-thin and boasts a 200MP camera.
If you’ve finally made up your mind to get a new foldable phone, continue to read for a showdown between the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Vivo X Fold 5.
Vivo X Fold 5 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Design and display
The Vivo X Fold 5 carries forward the same design as the predecessor, but as few tweaks, such as the curved frame and a sturdier hinge. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is now a bit wider.
With the X Fold 5, you get a massive 8.03-inch LTPO AMOLED display inside, with a 2K+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It gets ridiculously bright too, with a peak of 4500 nits. Even the outer 6.53-inch cover screen is AMOLED and runs at 120Hz for smooth scrolling.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is even slimmer at just 8.9mm when folded, lighter at 215 grams, and looks more refined overall. The inner display is a slightly smaller 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel. It also supports 120Hz, but with an adaptive refresh that drops down to 1Hz to save battery. Peak brightness is 2600 nits, which is lower than vivo but still strong. The cover screen is 6.5 inches and just as polished.
Vivo X Fold 5 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Cameras
When it comes to cameras, Vivo keeps things balanced. There are three 50MP sensors on the back, all tuned by Zeiss. That includes the main sensor, a 3x telephoto with OIS, and an ultra-wide unit.

Samsung packs a 200MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP telephoto. For selfies, the X Fold 5 flaunts 20MP cameras on the inside and on the cover screen. Samsung goes with a 10MP cover camera and another 10MP under the main screen.
Vivo X Fold 5 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Performance, battery, software
Under the hood, both are powered by a Snapdragon chipset. But Samsung uses the Galaxy 8 Elite for the Galaxy chipset. The Vivo X Fold 5 gets a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is slightly old. Both get 16GB RAM and 512GB. You also get up to 1TB of storage with the Z Fold 7.
The battery department is where Vivo pulls ahead. It packs a 6000mAh cell with 80W wired charging and 40W wireless. Samsung stays modest with 4400mAh, 25W wired charging, and 15W wireless. Vivo clearly wins on endurance and speed.
As for software, the X Fold 5 runs on Android 15 with Funtouch OS 15. Samsung ships the newest Android 16 with One UI 8, bringing in Galaxy AI features that tie well with multitasking and large-screen use. Notably, the X Fold 5 also comes with AI features like Smart Call Assistant and AI Captions.
Coming to the price, the Vivo X Fold 5 is slightly cheaper at Rs 1,49,999, whereas the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts at Rs 1,76,999. For the extra price, Samsung offers the latest chipset, the newest software, and a 200MP camera. If you want to save some cash, the X Fold 5 is also a no-brainer.
