What is 1080p?

1080p, also known as Full HD, is a resolution standard used in High-definition (HD) television and display technology. It refers to a display resolution of 1920 pixels horizontally (width) and 1080 pixels vertically (height) for a total of approximately two million pixels.

This resolution is generally used in displays larger than 32 inches and is considered to be the bare minimum resolution to qualify as a High-definition (HD) display. Contrary to popular belief that the p in 1080p is for pixels, it actually stands for progressive scan. It means that the lines of the display are refreshed in sequential order from top to bottom.

1080p is often considered to be the standard for high-definition displays, as it offers a good balance of image quality and performance. It provides a clear and detailed image with good color accuracy and is suitable for most viewing distances. However, higher resolutions such as 4k are becoming more and more common. They offer even more detail and clarity, particularly on larger displays.
