Smarter in-car messaging experience arrives

WhatsApp now offers full dashboard experience in your car

WhatsApp has introduced a major update that improves its integration with Apple’s in-car system. The latest version brings a more complete experience, making it easier for users to interact with messages and calls while driving.

WhatsApp CarPlay update features explained

The update introduces a full native interface for Apple CarPlay, moving beyond the earlier Siri-based interaction model. Users can now access a structured dashboard that presents key functions directly on the car’s display, reducing the need for voice-only controls.

One of the main additions is a chat overview section that highlights recent conversations. While it does not allow full message browsing, it helps users quickly check activity and identify unread messages. Alongside this, a dedicated call history tab shows incoming, outgoing, and missed calls with timestamps and contact details.

Another section focuses on favourite contacts, allowing quicker access to frequently contacted people. The interface also includes quick action buttons for sending dictated messages or placing calls with minimal distraction. The overall layout is designed to keep interactions simple while maintaining focus on driving.

This update is now available through the latest iOS version of the app and has moved out of its testing phase. It reflects a shift towards more app-driven experiences within CarPlay, where users can interact with essential features directly instead of relying entirely on voice commands.

How to access WhatsApp CarPlay features

Step 1 Update WhatsApp to the latest version from the App Store on your iPhone to enable the new CarPlay interface.

Step 2 Connect your iPhone to a CarPlay-supported vehicle using a wired or wireless connection, depending on your car’s compatibility.

Step 3 Open WhatsApp from the CarPlay dashboard, where the new interface will appear with chats, calls, and favourites ready to use.
