WhatsApp is taking another step towards expanding its presence across devices, and a new report from WABetaInfo hints at a more complete in-car experience. Early access users are now getting a glimpse of how messaging could work directly from a car’s infotainment system.
What will the WhatsApp CarPlay app feel like
The new development comes in the form of a native app for Apple CarPlay, currently rolling out to iOS beta testers via TestFlight. Unlike the earlier setup that depended entirely on Siri, this version introduces a proper interface designed for safer interaction while driving.

Users can now view a list of recent chats, typically covering conversations from the past few weeks, making it easier to identify contacts without relying only on voice commands. However, the experience remains intentionally limited for safety. Users cannot open full conversations or read entire chat histories on the car screen.
Instead, the focus is on quick actions such as selecting a contact and replying through voice input. The interface also shows useful indicators like pinned or muted chats, along with timestamps of the latest messages.

Alongside the chat list, the app introduces a dedicated calls tab where users can check incoming, outgoing, and missed calls in one place. Another addition is a favourites tab, allowing quicker access to important contacts. Users can also view basic profile details such as name and display picture before choosing to call or send a message.
The app supports both light and dark modes, keeping the interface consistent with system settings. While messaging is still voice-driven, the added visual layers bring more control compared to the earlier Siri-only experience. As of now, this feature is limited to beta testers, and a wider rollout through the App Store is expected in the coming weeks.
