A new way to view status updates

WhatsApp may soon show status updates directly in the chats tab

WhatsApp keeps adding new features every now and then. A few days ago, the instant messaging platform rolled out the ability to create and share usernames instead of phone numbers to a select few users. Now, a report states that WhatsApp is working on making changes to how statuses appear on the app.

WhatsApp could change how you check status updates

In the new WhatsApp build on TestFlight, WABetaInfo spotted a new change that shows the status updates in the chats tab. It is located at the very top above the search bar. Currently, there is a separate updates tab where you can see all status updates from your contacts. The change spotted in the testflight version is much similar to apps like Instagram

Notably, the source reports that the new status update section in the chats tab won’t be visible by default and all the time. Users will need to pull down the interface that will reveal statuses. This will eliminate any intrusive user experience.

As per the screenshot shared, the updates tab continues to be there even with the new change that stacks statuses at the top of the chats list. The status tray in the navigation bar is said to show updates ranked based on contact relevance with the priority placed on people you interact with most.

The feature is currently under development and it is not accessible to anybody yet. Once the testing is complete, it will be rolled out to select beta testers and then finally make its way for stable release.
