WhatsApp Video Message feature: What it is and how you can use it

WhatsApp is known for constantly adding new features to the popular instant messaging and communication app that help it compete with rival applications like Telegram. Among the upcoming features is a new Video Message feature that could change how you communicate with friends and family from your smartphone.

Here’s everything you need to know about WhatsApp Video Messages, including what it is and how you can use it:

What is WhatsApp Video Message?

A new take on WhatsApp’s audio message feature (also called Voice Notes), WhatsApp Video Messages will enable you to send short video clips to your contacts. These clips can be up to 60 seconds long and could include anything from quick, important cooking instructions to a cute dog you came across.

WhatsApp is also not replacing the audio message feature. Instead, the new video message feature will co-exist with the audio message feature. The microphone-shaped button will also be used to toggle between the video and audio message modes. Video messages will also be end-to-end encrypted.

Note that for video messages to go through, both you and your recipient must have the latest version of the app with the feature enabled.

Who has access to the new WhatsApp feature?

The WhatsApp Video Message feature is currently doing its final rounds of testing, which makes it available only to WhatsApp Beta users for now.

As per a report by WABetaInfo, the feature is currently available on WhatsApp for iOS version 23.12.0.71 and WhatsApp for Android version 2.23.13.4. However, the feature is set to come to stable users soon.

In other news, WhatsApp also recently brought its ‘edit message’ feature to stable users after the feature went through a similar beta-testing phase. The feature lets users edit sent text messages up to 15 minutes after they’re sent. While readers will see that the message has been edited, they will not see the pre-edited version of the message.
