Xiaomi 17 Ultra may arrive in two versions, promises big photography upgrade

Last month, Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi 17 series of premium flagship phones in China. It is speculated that the company may expand the lineup by adding the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17s Pro in the coming year. A new leak, courtesy of reliable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS), has now revealed key camera details of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra promises substantial camera upgrade

According to a Weibo post by DCS, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature a quad-camera setup on the back, comprising three 50-megapixel cameras and one 200-megapixel camera. The tipster revealed that the primary camera will be backed by a large sensor with an extremely high dynamic range, while another will be a new periscope telephoto camera equipped with advanced optical technology and a large sensor size. The remaining lenses will follow a more conventional configuration.

An interesting detail shared by DCS is that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will arrive in two versions. Both are said to have identical camera hardware, meaning they will possess the same sensors and lens module technology. However, the higher-end version will introduce innovative and disruptive imaging features.

When asked by a Weibo user whether the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s improvements over its predecessor are significant, the tipster confirmed that the upgrade is substantial, particularly in the primary and periscope camera hardware.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra expected camera specifications

Previous reports have claimed that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s camera setup will include a 50-megapixel OmniVision OV50X main camera. Accompanying it will be two 50-megapixel Samsung JN5 lenses for the ultra-wide and telephoto cameras. Rounding up the rear camera setup will be a 200-megapixel Samsung HPE periscope telephoto lens.
