Xiaomi 18 Pro series with dual 200MP cameras may deliver a top-notch photography experience

Major camera leap

Xiaomi 18 Pro series with dual 200MP cameras may deliver a top-notch photography experience

While the Xiaomi 17 Ultra features a 200MP camera, the remaining models in the series rely on multiple 50MP cameras, with no additional 200MP sensor. This is expected to change with the Xiaomi 18 series, as it appears that more models in the lineup could adopt 200MP cameras. In fact, a new leak claims that the Xiaomi 18 Pro-branded models may feature dual 200MP cameras.

Xiaomi 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max to get major camera boost

According to a new Weibo post by reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, an upcoming Xiaomi flagship phone equipped with a 6.3-inch display will feature a pair of 200MP cameras.

Based on the current generation, the Xiaomi 18 lineup is expected to include multiple models such as the Xiaomi 18, 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, 18 Max, and 18 Ultra. However, among these, only the standard model and the Pro model are expected to feature a 6.3-inch display.

Considering that Xiaomi may reserve major upgrades for the Pro edition rather than the standard model, the leak suggests that the Xiaomi 18 Pro could be the device with a 6.3-inch display and dual 200MP cameras.

Xiaomi offered similar triple 50MP camera setups on the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, with the latter offering a different periscope telephoto camera sensor, a bigger 6.9-inch display and a larger battery. Following a similar approach, it is likely that the Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max could both feature dual 200MP cameras, possibly for the primary and periscope telephoto sensors, accompanied by a 50MP ultra-wide lens.

A previous leak from the same source revealed that the standard Xiaomi 18 will also receive a camera upgrade. The current generation includes a 50MP telephoto camera, which could be upgraded to a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom on the standard Xiaomi 18.

Early rumours suggest that the entire Xiaomi 18 lineup may be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset. As for the Xiaomi 18 Ultra, it may feature the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.

Xiaomi 18 series launch timeframe (rumoured)

The Xiaomi 18 series is expected to launch in China by September this year, while the Xiaomi 18 Ultra may debut in December. It is still too early to comment on the global launch timeframe, as Xiaomi has yet to launch the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra globally, which is expected to happen by the end of this month.
