Xiaomi’s ecosystem company Moaan has just revealed the InkPalm Mini Plus 2. This is basically an e-reader that throws down the gauntlet to Kindle with some frankly wild specifications—like a whopping 512GB of storage. Now, that amount of storage may sound overkill, but unlike the Kindle, this is a full-fledged device that runs Android 14.
Too overpowered for an e-reader?
The InkPalm Mini Plus 2 boasts a 5.84-inch e-ink display that offers 32 levels of adjustable warm and cool lighting, so you can read comfortably day or night. The screen also supports 256 levels of grayscale on its 1440 x 720 pixel panel for crisp text and images.
Under the bonnet, things get even more interesting. The device runs on a Rockchip RK3566 chipset with 6GB of RAM. That’s some serious muscle for a gadget built to display text, but it ensures the Android 14 operating system runs smoothly. This gives users the freedom to install apps from outside a locked-down ecosystem.

The 512GB of storage is the real highlight since it dwarfs the 32GB found on most rivals. That’s enough to hold over 2,00,000 text-only ebooks. A 2,250mAh battery promises up to two weeks of reading time and charges via USB-C.
But despite such specs it measures a slim 6.9mm thick and weighs just 140 grams, making it significantly narrower and lighter than a Kindle Paperwhite—and even most smartphones.
The device is priced at ¥1,399, which is roughly Rs 17,300. It launches in China on September 22. Unfortunately for bookworms elsewhere, Xiaomi has not announced any plans for a global release.
