7 new video game movies to look out for

Video game movies are becoming a big thing, and we are hearing about them almost every other month. Starting this year, there are quite a few video game movies lined up for release. Be it the sequel to A Minecraft Movie or the upcoming Street Fighter film, the buzz is everywhere.

We’ve rounded up seven of the most exciting video game movies that you cannot miss.

Resident Evil

Another reboot of the Resident Evil franchise is on the way. Only this time, it’s a movie that aims to stay closer to the horror roots of the games rather than an action-heavy direction.

The new movie is being developed with the goal of capturing the tense survival horror vibe that made the games so popular. Some characters have already been finalised, and we are expected to see Leon S Kennedy on the big screen.

Bendy and the Ink Machine

Bendy and the Ink Machine became a cult hit thanks to its creepy cartoon style and unsettling story set inside an abandoned animation studio.

The movie adaptation aims to recreate that eerie atmosphere. If the filmmakers capture the strange mix of cartoon visuals and horror, this could be a very unique video game movie.

Street Fighter

The legendary fighting franchise is also getting another shot at the big screen. The new Street Fighter movie will reboot the series and bring a bunch of characters to the forefront.

The story is expected to revolve around the famous World Warrior tournament, where fighters from around the world compete against each other. With a stacked cast and modern production, this could finally be the Street Fighter adaptation fans have been waiting for.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4

The Sonic movie universe is showing no signs of slowing down. After three successful films, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is already in development and expected to continue the story of Sega’s iconic blue hedgehog.

The previous movies balanced humour, action, and nostalgia, and the next film could introduce even more characters from the Sonic games.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Nintendo is doubling down on Mario after the massive success of the first animated film. The upcoming sequel, releasing on April 1, takes inspiration from the Super Mario Galaxy games and will send Mario and friends on a cosmic adventure.

Expect colourful planets, new characters, and even bigger stakes for the Mushroom Kingdom.

Helldivers

Sony is also turning the chaotic co-op shooter Helldivers into a movie. The game is known for its over-the-top action and satirical take on futuristic warfare, where players fight alien threats across hostile planets.

The film should offer the same large-scale battlefield chaos, while capturing the energy and humour of the game.

A Minecraft Movie 2

The world of Minecraft is expanding further with a sequel already in the works. After the first film introduced audiences to the blocky sandbox universe, the follow-up is expected to go bigger with more characters, larger adventures, and better exploration of the game’s world.

The sequel is currently scheduled for 2027. Given how massive the Minecraft franchise is globally, the second film could easily become one of the biggest video game adaptations yet.
