Rumours about Apple’s HomePod with a screen had first surfaced way back in 2024. It was supposed to arrive last year and then later this month. Now a new report reveals that the Cupertino-based tech giant has once again postponed the launch of smart home display.
Despite announcing some new hardware products last week, the delay is because of the company’s efforts to finish the major overhaul of Siri.
Apple smart home display could arrive alongside iPhone 18
In the latest report, Gurman says that Apple has pushed the launch of its smart home display to September this year. The device is codenamed J490 and it has been reportedly ready for months. It is also rumoured to feature a 7-inch display that can be wall-mounted or sit on a half-domed speaker base. The smart display speaker is said to be heavily focussed on AI and intelligent Siri capabilities that Apple is working on.
Apple’s smart home display is also expected to come with facial recognition tech to identify the user and display personalized information such as calendar events, reminders, etc. It will reportedly act as a central AI hub for controlling smart home devices and accessing information. The device will also have circular app icons and user interface similar to Apple Watch.
Apple’s promised upgrades to Siri were announced in 2024 and it has been marred by issues and bugs causing a significant delay. The company now aims to deliver the revamped Siri coinciding with the iPhone 18 launch at fall event in September.

When the Apple smart display launches, it will compete against the likes of Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub. The brand is also working on a version of display with a robotic arm.
