In a surprise move, Apple has rolled out iOS 26.3.1, a minor software update for the iPhone that focuses largely on stability improvements and system fixes rather than any eye-catching, new features.
The patch landed on Wednesday, March 4, and is now available to download through the usual route in Settings > General > Software Update on supported iPhones. As small, iterative updates go, this one is exactly what it looks like: a bit of housekeeping after February’s iOS 26.3 release.
iOS 26.3.1 update: Mostly fixes, plus new Studio Display support
According to Apple’s release notes, iOS 26.3.1 introduces support for the company’s latest Studio Display and Studio Display XDR monitors, alongside a round of general bug fixes and under-the-hood improvements.
There are no new user-facing features to explore, which is typical for point updates like this. Apple tends to use them to smooth out rough edges, patch security gaps, and ensure the previous release runs as intended across the wide range of supported iPhones.
If your phone has been behaving oddly since the last update, this patch is likely aimed at addressing exactly that.
The next update is already in testing
This small release arrives a few weeks after iOS 26.3, which introduced a handful of tweaks rather than major changes. Among them were tools designed to make switching from an iPhone to an Android device easier, along with several privacy updates and ecosystem adjustments.
Meanwhile, Apple is already working on the next step in the cycle. iOS 26.4 is currently in developer beta, where the company is testing upcoming additions including AI-generated playlists in Apple Music and encrypted RCS messaging.

The third developer beta of iOS 26.4 is already available, though installing it comes with the usual warnings attached to beta software: bugs, crashes and the occasional app behaving badly.
