These PS5 Pro games make the upgrade worth it

Best PS5 Pro games to play in 2025: Check list

It’s been a while since the PS5 Pro launched, and by now, the hardware has had time to settle while developers begin to figure out how to push it. Some games have begun to take advantage of the extra power, improving performance in ways that are noticeable, like clearer image quality, more stable frame rates, and better lighting during demanding scenes.

That said, the list of games that use the PS5 Pro well is still short. But the ones that do make a strong case for the upgrade. If you’re looking to get the most out of your PS5 Pro this year, here are the best PS5 Pro games to play in 2025.

Best PS5 Pro games to play in 2025

These are some of the best games you can purchase for the PS5 Pro:

– Stellar Blade
– Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
– Horizon Forbidden West
– Assassin’s Creed Shadows
– The Last of Us 2

Stellar Blade

Stellar Blade was already a visual stunner when it launched in 2024, but its PS5 Pro upgrade turns it into one of the sharpest, smoothest experiences on the system. Set on a post-apocalyptic Earth, you play as Eve, a hyper-skilled warrior sent to reclaim the planet from monstrous Naytibas. On PS5 Pro, developers Shift Up have added two new graphics modes: Pro and Pro Max.

Pro mode uses Sony’s new PSSR upscaling along with a higher internal resolution to deliver cleaner edges, better surface detail, and a remarkably stable 60fps lock. An HFR toggle boosts gameplay responsiveness by unlocking frame rates up to 80fps, improving tight dodges and precision timing. The game also includes a photo mode, gameplay balance tweaks, and a Nier: Automata crossover, which is part of a recent patch that rounds out the package.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is already one of the most ambitious RPGs of its generation, expanding the 1997 classic into a sprawling and character-driven journey across a fully reimagined world. On PS5 Pro, the experience becomes noticeably sharper. The new Versatility mode includes full support for Sony’s PSSR upscaling, producing a crisp 4K image that is a clear improvement over the soft and often blurry Performance mode on the base PS5. Environments, especially large areas filled with foliage, appear cleaner in motion, and the overall presentation is much more consistent on a 4K display.

More importantly, this mode delivers a stable 60 frames per second, even during large battles and cinematic transitions. Draw distances are clearer, detail holds up better, and combat feels tighter thanks to smoother timing and reduced visual noise. For a game of this scale, with layered characters, strategic real-time combat, and some of the most impressive set pieces in the series, the PS5 Pro version gives Final Fantasy VII Rebirth the visual clarity and performance consistency it has always needed.

Horizon Forbidden West

For all its scale and ambition, Horizon Forbidden West was already a visual showcase on PS5. But with the PS5 Pro patch, it becomes one of the best examples of what the upgraded hardware can actually deliver. Guerrilla Games didn’t rely on Sony’s new PSSR upscaler; instead, they introduced their own solution, a proprietary reconstruction method that delivers remarkably clean image quality at 60 frames per second.

It’s a clear improvement over the base PS5 performance mode, which often looked soft under scrutiny. On PS5 Pro, texture clarity, anti-aliasing, and subpixel detail all receive a noticeable upgrade, with fewer artifacts and stronger visual stability during motion. With the Pro patch bringing performance and image quality into better balance, Horizon Forbidden West feels sharper, smoother, and more fully realised than ever, a clear showcase for what the PS5 Pro can offer.

Assassin's Creed: Shadows

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series has visited Renaissance Italy, ancient Egypt, and colonial America, but the recent Assassin’s Creed: Shadows takes a different turn. Set in 16th-century Sengoku-era Japan, a period of shifting power, political intrigue, and constant warfare, it finally brings the franchise to a long-requested setting. The game introduces two protagonists with distinct play styles: Naoe, a stealth-focused kunoichi, and Yasuke, a powerful African samurai inspired by a real historical figure. Their contrasting approaches, stealth compared to strength, shape the non-linear open world that changes with seasons, lighting, and time of day.

On PlayStation 5 Pro, Ubisoft Quebec has implemented ray-traced global illumination across all modes, ray-traced reflections in Balanced mode via a post-launch update, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for cleaner image reconstruction. The result is a more stable 60 frames per second, even with demanding visuals. Assassin’s Creed: Shadows also uses BVH8 support, allowing ray tracing to run up to three times faster. The game also achieves a level of visual quality that comes closer to high-end PC settings than any previous entry in the series and clearly demonstrates what the PlayStation 5 Pro is capable of delivering.

The Last of Us 2

Naughty Dog’s brutal and emotionally complex sequel gets its definitive console version on PlayStation 5 Pro. The newly added Pro mode renders at 1440p and upscales to 4K using PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), delivering a sharper and cleaner image than the base PS5’s performance mode, especially in foliage, geometry, and reflections. It runs at a locked 60 frames per second, and on VRR-enabled displays, can reach higher frame rates in less demanding scenes.

Set in a fractured Seattle years after Joel’s final decision, the game alternates between Ellie and Abby, two women locked in a cycle of revenge. Combat combines stealth, survival horror, and tense improvisation, now enhanced by fluid animation, smarter enemy AI, and a refined prone system that makes encounters feel tighter and more responsive. For those replaying in 2025, this version adds improved image quality, faster load times, support for VRR, and up to 120 frames per second in unlocked modes.
