DJI has unveiled its Mic 3, a brand new wireless microphone system aimed directly at the bags of content creators, filmmakers, and anyone who needs great audio on the move. The new lineup is available in kits for one or two people and brings a host of professional-grade features into a compact package.
32-bit float recording, huge range, and a clever modular design
The system’s core is built around tiny clip-on transmitters that double as both wireless mics and backup recorders. These units boast a massive transmission range of up to 1,312 feet, ensuring a stable connection. The receiver can be mounted on a DSLR or mirrorless camera using a 3.5mm cable or plugged straight into a smartphone or laptop via USB-C.
For serious video editors, the Mic 3 supports timecode input, embedding data into recordings to make syncing audio and video in post-production a breeze. It captures audio in 32-bit float, a high-end feature that prevents audio clipping and offers huge flexibility.
Control is handled by a slick 1.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen on the receiver. This screen lets you tweak settings on the fly. The system also includes smart features like two-level noise cancellation and different voice presets to shape your sound.

A special quadraphonic mode is also present that works with certain Sony cameras to output four separate audio tracks for advanced mixing.
The whole system is also highly flexible. For one, it’s entire modular and allows users to purchase the receiver, transmitter, and charging case separately. This means you can start with a single-mic setup and expand to four transmitters on one receiver later.
The two-person kit includes a charging case that extends the total battery life to a marathon 28 hours. DJI is even offering a set of multi-coloured windscreens so your mic can better match your outfit.
