OnePlus is working on its first foldable phone, and here’s why you should be excited

First OnePlus foldable phone may be the perfect Samsung Galaxy Z Fold rival

Among the many companies beginning to enter the foldable smartphone segment is OnePlus. The brand has reportedly been working on its first foldable phone for quite some time, and a new leak suggests the device could come with a very polished design and OnePlus’ signature sleek looks.

As per new leaks by tipster @OnLeaks via SmartPrix, the new OnePlus foldable smartphone could come with a faux leather texture on the back, a triple rear camera setup in a large circular module, and some Hasselblad goodness. Here’s everything we know so far about the device.

OnePlus foldable smartphone: What do we know so far

The OnePlus foldable smartphone is expected to feature the company’s signature alert slider, which lets users jump between ringer and silent modes quickly. The device also reportedly clubs the power button and a capacitive fingerprint scanner into a single button that’s present along the right edge of the phone.

This could mean we will likely not see an in-display fingerprint scanner here, which is a good thing because a fingerprint scanner on the right edge would allow users to unlock the device while using both the inner and outer screens. Apart from this, we also see a pair of combined volume rocker buttons on the same edge.

The larger inner screen, as per the leak, seems to have a punch-hole front camera on the top-left corner, while the outer, smaller screen has a centre-aligned punch-hole camera.

OnePlus foldable phone specifications

The foldable OnePlus smartphone is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, Qualcomm’s most powerful chip around right now. This could be accompanied by a 2K 120Hz AMOLED LTPO display panel, which will allow variable refresh rate support on the phone.

Coming to the cameras, the phone is expected to sport a triple camera sensor on the back. While not confirmed, leaks suggest these sensors could be the 50MP Sony IMX 890, accompanied by an ultrawide sensor and what appears to be a periscope sensor. Lastly, the phone is also expected to feature a 4,800mAh battery with 100W SuperVOOC fast charging.

The perfect Samsung Galaxy Z Fold rival?

While the OnePlus foldable smartphone doesn’t have any official launch date, or even a name yet, the device could be a big rival for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold smartphone. The new Galaxy Fold is expected to be the first in the series to perfect the hinge and fold completely flat.

Samsung and OnePlus are not the only players in the segment either. With brands like Google and Oppo also gradually coming to the party, expect a lot more foldable phones to come in the following years.
