Samsung could fix the biggest weakness of the Galaxy S25 Edge on its sequel

Samsung’s super-skinny Galaxy S25 Edge landed just a couple of months ago, and while its 5.8mm frame is a marvel of engineering, its battery size of 3,900mAh isn’t exactly something to write home about. But fresh rumours suggest Samsung is trying to make amends with next year’s model.

Bigger battery, even thinner design

A new leak from tipster Ice Universe claims the upcoming Galaxy S26 Edge will somehow be even thinner than the current model while also packing a larger battery. The secret is apparently some “new battery material technology”.

While the leak is slim on specifics, this almost certainly points to Samsung finally adopting silicon-carbon batteries. Competitors like OnePlus and Honor are already using this tech to cram more power into smaller spaces, so it was only a matter of time before Samsung joined the rest.

It’s worth mentioning that our review found the Galaxy S25 Edge battery “easily lasts a full day”. A larger battery in the S26 Edge could improve this further. This change could also signal a wider strategic shift for Samsung’s lineup.

Chatter suggests Samsung is planning to have the S26 Edge completely replace the Galaxy S26 Plus in next year’s lineup. It makes sense since the Plus model has apparently been the weakest link in sales for a while now. Rumours prior to the launch of the S25 Edge even suggested that it would replace the S25 Plus – just like Apple is supposedly replacing what would have been an iPhone 17 Plus with an “Air” model – though it seems Samsung has now put that off for another year.
