Garmin has introduced a dedicated app for accessing WhatsApp on its smartwatches. Available through the company’s Connect IQ store, users can use the new app to communicate through the standalone WhatsApp app without reaching for their smartphones. Here’s a look at the features available.
Garmin WhatsApp app: Know all the key features
The WhatsApp app for Garmin smartwatches allows users not only to view conversations but also to reply to them using the on-screen keyboard. Readers can also react to messages using emojis and reactions. Users can scroll through up to ten previous messages.
Users will also be able to view incoming WhatsApp calls and will have the option to decline them. Garmin clarified that WhatsApp conversations and calls will have end-to-end encryption, which means the messages and calls remain secure and accessible only to the sender and receiver.
Garmin WhatsApp app: Compatible devices and how to use it
Garmin confirmed that the WhatsApp app will be available on select Fenix, Forerunner, Venu, and Vivoactive smartwatches. As mentioned above, the Garmin WhatsApp app is available through the Connect IQ Store as the only third-party messaging app in the store. This has been made possible through the company’s developer programme and the Connect IQ platform.
Here’s how the official WhatsApp can be used on Garmin watches.
Step 1: To use the app, users can access the Connect IQ Store available through the Google Play Store or Apple App Store on their phone.
Step 2: Search for WhatsApp to download and install it on your Garmin watch.
Step 3: Open the app on the watch and sign in with your WhatsApp account to start viewing and replying to messages.
WhatsApp has been available on Android smartwatches for quite a while, but Meta introduced a dedicated app for the Apple Watch in November 2025. And now, Garmin smartwatch users can also access the messaging platform directly from their wearable devices.
