Smarter browsing with Gemini AI

Google adds Nano Banana to Chrome with deeper Gemini integration

Google has rolled out a new set of updates that further embed Gemini into the Chrome browser, introducing smarter tools designed to streamline everyday browsing. Among the additions is Nano Banana, Google’s image generation and editing technology, which now works directly inside Chrome, alongside broader enhancements to Gemini’s role across the browser.

Gemini side panel and Nano Banana arrive in Chrome

One of the most visible changes is the introduction of a dedicated Gemini side panel in Chrome for macOS, Windows, and Chromebook Plus devices. The side panel allows users to interact with Gemini while remaining on their current webpage, making it easier to multitask across tabs.

It can assist with comparing information, summarising lengthy articles or reviews, and helping organise schedules without breaking focus. Within this side panel, Nano Banana enables users to generate and edit images using simple text prompts.

Images can be transformed directly on a webpage, eliminating the need to download files or switch between apps. This makes it easier to experiment with creative ideas, visualise design concepts, or turn research data into visuals, all within the browsing environment.

Agentic browsing and deeper app connections

Beyond creative tools, Google is expanding Gemini’s practical capabilities through deeper integration with Connected Apps such as Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Flights, Shopping, and YouTube. This allows Gemini in Chrome to pull relevant information across services to assist with tasks like planning trips, checking event schedules, or drafting messages using contextual data.

Google is also previewing an auto browse feature for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US. This agentic capability allows Chrome to handle multi-step tasks, including researching options, filling out online forms, and managing subscriptions.

Auto browse pauses at key steps to request user approval, ensuring transparency and user control. In the coming months, Personal Intelligence will further enhance Chrome by remembering past interactions and delivering more tailored assistance.
