Edit photos on Gemini: Coloured hair, blue-er skies, you’ve got it!
You can now edit not just AI-generated images, but also your own photos, the ones you upload from your phone or laptop. Want to switch up your hairstyle? Upload a selfie and ask Gemini to show you with rainbow-colored hair. Want to add a sunset to your beach photo or swap out the background to a castle in the clouds? You can do that too.
It’s a fun, multi-step editing process that keeps things intuitive while delivering seriously creative results. You can even mix text and image prompts to get rich, visual storytelling. Imagine this: you ask Gemini to create a bedtime story about friendly dragons, and it gives you both the words and matching images to bring the tale to life.
How to edit photos on Gemini
Step 1: Open the Gemini app or visit gemini.google.com.
Step 2: Upload an image you want to edit.
Step 3: Type a text prompt describing your edit (e.g., “Add a sunset background”).
Step 4: Review the generated image and refine with follow-up prompts if needed.
Step 5: Download or share your edited image directly from the app or web.
And if you are not satisfied with the results, you can go on and on… Gemini can do this all day!

All images edited or generated in Gemini will include Google’s invisible SynthID watermark which is a quiet marker showing the image is AI-generated. And just so things stay clear and transparent, Google is also testing a visible watermark on these creations.
The feature is starting to roll out today in over 45 languages and most countries. So if you’ve got a photo and an idea, you’ve got a canvas.
Feeling inspired? Head to the Gemini app and get creating.
