How to share your Instagram posts with ‘Close Friends’

Whether or not you’re a frequenter of the app, you probably already know how to work your way around Instagram’s green circle. Known as the Close Friends list, the feature is a fairly simple way to limit the audience for your story and notes. And, let’s face it, the Close Friends list on Instagram is also where all the tea is!

However, the meta-owned platform has now extended this feature to posts. This means you can replicate a limited audience for your photos or videos and have it visible only for your green circle. If you’ve missed out on this announcement, we have everything you need to know about it.

Instagram Close Friends: How does it work for your posts?

A Close Friends story appears with a green star and circle when you’re included as a viewer. The platform now allows the privacy of posting photos to the audience of your choice by adding and removing people from this list. Here’s how to go about it:

Step 1: On the Instagram app on your smartphone, click on the icon with your display picture
Step 2: On the top-right corner, you will find a hamburger menu. Tap on it to access a list of options
Step 3: Click on Settings and Privacy
Step 4: Under Who Can See Your Content, tap on Close Friends
Step 5: Locate your contacts in the suggested list or search for them in the bar
Step 6: Once you’re through selecting, click on Done to save changes

After adding friends to your green circle, you will automatically have the option to choose the audience for your story. However, here’s how it works for your posts:

Step 1: Select the post you wish to share on your feed
Step 2: After you’re done editing and adding a filter of your choice, tap Next
Step 3: Under the caption bar, you will find the option titled Audience
Step 4: On clicking this, you will be able to choose between your Followers and Close Friends
Step 5: Once you click on Done, your settings will be saved for the post
Step 6: Publish your post, and you’re good to go

It is crucial to note that your Close Friends will be able to see each other’s names and likes on your post. Instagram also allows people who are added later to see all your green circle posts. With this feature replicated for posts and reels, you might just be able to see less on your feed — or more if you’re the popular kind!
