Microsoft Surface Pro 10, Surface Laptop 6 are the company’s newest business-focused offerings

Microsoft has launched two new laptops under its Surface series. These are the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6, both of which are now powered by Intel Core Ultra series AI processors and other features to make them powerful workhorses for 2024. Here’s all you need to know about both of these laptops.

Microsoft Surface Pro 10

The new Microsoft Surface Pro 10 gets a new redesign and looks a lot like the Intel-powered Surface Pro 9. The laptop can be decked with either the Intel Core Ultra 5 135U or the Intel Core Ultra 7 165U chipsets. This will be coupled with a base 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD storage, although users will be able to configure the memory up to 64GB.

The laptop also gets a better 13-inch display, now sporting a new anti-reflective coating and 33 per cent more brightness. Sadly, this is still an LCD panel, and will not have quite the punchiness of an OLED panel, like the one on the new HP Spectre x360, also powered by Intel Core Ultra chips.

The Surface Pro 10 comes with two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports and the Microsoft Surface Connect port for charging. Microsoft claims the new Surface 10 Pro can deliver up to 19 hours of battery life. There’s also a new 1440p webcam that captures a 114-degree field of view, and the Core Ultra NPU powers features like better background blur and automatic framing during video calls.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 6

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 6 has been completely redesigned and is aimed to provide “desktop-class performance”. To this end, Microsoft will sell the Surface Laptop 6 with Intel Core Ultra 5 135H or Intel Core Ultra 7 165H chipsets.

The laptop still gets 8GB RAM, which can be expanded to 64GB. Meanwhile, storage starts at a 256GB SSD variant, that can be expanded to 1TB. The Surface Laptop 6 will be available in a smaller 13.5-inch variant, which will come with a single USB-C Thunderbolt 4 port, while the larger 15-inch model will have two of those. Both versions will feature a headphone jack, a USB-A port and the Surface Connect port.

The Surface Laptop 6 display also now gets an anti-reflective coating, and a better 1080p front camera, but misses out on the wider angle the Surface Pro 10 gets.

Both the Surface Laptop 6 and the Surface Pro 10 start at USD 1,199 (about Rs 99,930), but given that they are business-oriented machines, don’t expect them to have a wider launch, at least not anytime soon. Thankfully, Microsoft is also expected to announce consumer versions of these laptops later this year.
