Motorola is breaking its reputation for slow software updates. In a surprising move, the brand has become one of the earliest OEMs to roll out Android 16 across its extensive portfolio. While Google officially launched the stable version of Android 16 in mid-2025, Motorola has spent the last few months aggressively pushing the update to its Edge, Razr, and Moto G lineups. If you own a recent Moto device, here is the breakdown of what’s new and how you can get the update.

How to join the Android 16 beta program
If your device isn’t on the stable list yet but is eligible for the beta, you can sign up for early access:
Step 1: Sign up on the Motorola Community website.
Step 2: Go to your profile settings and add your phone’s IMEI or serial number.
Step 3: Check the box to join the Motorola Feedback Network.
Step 4: Visit the “Beta Testing Opportunities” page, select your device, and submit the application.
Step 5: Once approved (usually via email), go to Settings > System > Check for updates.

Always back up your data before installing a beta update, as pre-release software may contain bugs that could affect daily performance
Android 16: Key features at a glance
Android 16 transforms the Motorola experience with Live Updates, providing real-time tracking for deliveries and rides directly in the status bar. The Material 3 Expressive overhaul adds fluid animations and vibrant colours, while Notification Cooldown prevents alert fatigue by silencing rapid-fire pings.
Focusing on productivity and safety, Desktop Windowing allows tablet users to resize multiple app windows for a PC-like experience. Security is also bolstered by Advanced Protection, offering a one-tap toggle against exploits and phishing. This update seamlessly blends sophisticated aesthetics with powerful, user-centric utility.
