New video games you shouldn’t miss in June 2025

Can you believe we’re already halfway through 2025? Feels like January was just yesterday, and now June is here with some of the biggest game releases we’ve seen in a while. This month, players will get to play some truly ambitious titles, starting with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. If you played the original, you know how Kojima likes to deliver something different every time.

The sequel continues the story of Norman Reedus’ Sam Porter Bridges as he navigates a fractured world torn apart by mysterious supernatural forces. Also releasing this month is Dune: Awakening, which brings a new take on the classic sci-fi universe as an MMO focused on survival, resource management, and faction warfare. These are only the beginning because June’s lineup has plenty more games in store. Here is the full list of games you will not want to miss this month.

Mario Kart World

MindsEye

The Alters

FBC: Firebreak

1. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Hideo Kojima set out to create something truly unique with Death Stranding, and its sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, expands on the original, promising to deliver a deeper, more intricate gameplay experience alongside a darker, more enigmatic story. Norman Reedus’s Sam Porter Bridges returns, facing a world reshaped by mysterious forces connected to the mysterious “beach,” a place between life and death.

This time, Fragile (Léa Seydoux) plays an even bigger role, while old threats like Higgs (Troy Baker) and new figures like Elle Fanning’s Tomorrow push the story into even weirder, darker territory. Gameplay-wise, Kojima Productions is expanding the original’s foundation. The traversal system, a core part of the first game, appears more in-depth and varied, featuring new tools and strategies. Stealth and combat have been reworked, giving players more options, and the unique asynchronous multiplayer system, where your actions will ripple across other players’ worlds, is set to play a larger, more dynamic role.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach releases June 26, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5.

2. Dune: Awakening

Dune: Awakening promises to be a survival MMO on a scale rarely seen before. Set on the unforgiving desert planet of Arrakis, you crash-land while investigating a mysterious disappearance, only to find yourself tangled in a deeper and more dangerous conspiracy. As you explore the shifting sands solo or alongside other players, you will fight for survival against brutal sandstorms, resource scarcity, deadly sandworms, and rival factions.

Developed by Funcom, the team behind Conan Exiles, Dune: Awakening promises deep base building, dynamic exploration, intricate crafting systems, and the freedom to forge your own path and alliances. You will even be able to customise your character down to their stillsuit upgrades and abilities powered by spice harvesting.

Dune: Awakening launches for PC on June 10, 2025, with releases for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S planned for a later date.

3. Mario Kart World

Mario Kart World marks a bold new step for the franchise, bringing its signature racing into a sprawling open-world format. The official ninth instalment in the Mario Kart series, now titled World, takes racing beyond closed circuits to expansive regions around the globe, featuring dynamic weather and day-night cycles that change with each race. The game’s roster also doubles from the usual 12 racers to 24, including favourites like Mario, Peach, and Bowser alongside unexpected characters such as the Moo Moo Meadows cow and Pikmin-inspired racers.

Each character now has customisable outfits that can be unlocked by exploring tracks and collecting items. New gameplay features promise to expand the experience, including a “Charge Jump” move for wall drives and secret shortcuts, along with a Free Roam mode where you can drive anywhere off-track and cruise with friends. Battle mode is also making a return with classic and fresh challenges, while Knockout Tour pits 24 players in a high-stakes rally across interconnected courses.

4. MindsEye

MindsEye has sparked plenty of curiosity even though we’ve only seen bits and pieces of its gameplay, largely thanks to its pedigree. Developed by Build A Rocket Boy and led by Leslie Benzies, best known for his work on Grand Theft Auto, this single-player action-adventure puts players in the shoes of Jacob Diaz, a former soldier implanted with a neural device called the MindsEye. The implant haunts him with fragmented memories of a covert mission that changed everything.

The game takes place in the sprawling desert city of Redrock, where AI, experimental technology, and unchecked military power have reshaped society. Outside the main story, MindsEye also connects directly with the content creation platform Everywhere, letting players craft and share their own worlds, missions, and challenges.

MindsEye launches June 10, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

5. The Alters

The Alters is a survival and base-building game that adds a psychological twist to the genre. You step into the shoes of Jan Dolski, a space miner stranded on a dangerous planet after losing contact with his crew. To survive, Jan creates “Alters,” alternate versions of himself shaped by different life choices. Each Alter has unique skills, needs, and personalities that players must manage alongside resource gathering and base expansion.

Much of the gameplay focuses on piloting a massive wheel-shaped base across the planet’s surface to avoid lethal radiation from the sun. Players expand and maintain their base by adding new rooms and infrastructure, balancing survival against an ever-present ticking clock.

The Alters releases on June 13, 2025, for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

6. FBC: Firebreak

FBC: Firebreak marks Remedy’s first leap into the multiplayer genre, throwing players straight into the paranatural madness of the Control universe with a three-player co-op shooter. Years after the Oldest House was locked down to trap the Hiss, a new crisis unit is sent inside to contain bizarre threats and repair failing systems. Players will need to assemble their loadouts by selecting Crisis Kits, perks, and weapons before diving into unpredictable Jobs, from restoring ventilation systems to battling monstrous swarms of sticky notes.

Instead of using cutscenes to explain the story, Firebreak relies on environmental storytelling and player interactions. You’ll piece together the world’s mysteries through your team’s chatter, the shifting landscape, and surreal encounters. Cooperation is not optional here as tasks will often demand precise coordination, with teammates racing to restore power, repair vital machinery, or push back waves of the Hiss just to survive.
