Nothing has started rolling out Nothing OS 4.0 to the Nothing Phone (3), marking the first stable release of its Android 16–based software. Following weeks of public beta testing, the update is now reaching users in waves. Rollout for other Nothing and CMF devices is expected, though timelines remain unclear. Here’s what we know so far.
Nothing OS 4.0: More utility from Glyphs, subtle new touches
Nothing Phone (3) users are getting a few extras with the Nothing OS 4.0 update that make better use of the Glyph Interface. Flip to Glyph now has more control options, Pocket Mode has been fine-tuned, and two new ambient animations (Hourglass and Lunar Cycle) offer minimalistic visual feedback.
Android 16’s Live Updates now work with Glyph Progress, which means apps using real-time tracking, such as ride-hailing or delivery services, can relay their status directly through the lights and lock screen.
Mirror Selfie now saves both the flipped and original versions of a photo, a small but thoughtful addition for anyone who prefers true-to-life framing. The new Extra Dark Mode deepens blacks, improves contrast and extends to first-party apps like Launcher and Essential Space. It also gives Notifications, Quick Settings and the App Drawer a cleaner, more composed look in low light.

Animations feel softer and more consistent. App launches now slightly scale the wallpaper in and out, adding depth without drawing attention to itself. There’s also new haptic feedback when increasing or lowering the volume to its limits, giving a physical cue even if you’re not looking at the screen. Swiping away notifications feels less abrupt, thanks to a more elastic motion.
Other quality-of-life updates include 1×1 and 2×1 widget sizes for Weather, Pedometer and Screen Time; the ability to run two floating apps with Pop-up View; and an option to hide icons from the App Drawer without uninstalling them.
As with most updates, this one is rolling out in stages. If your Phone (3) hasn’t received the notification yet, expect it over the coming days. The focus here isn’t dramatic new features, but a more polished, less distracting experience. Has your Nothing Phone (3) received the OS 4.0 update? Drop a comment with your thoughts.
