Back in September, Nothing announced the Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16. Since then, the brand has been continuously testing the new firmware by releasing multiple open beta builds. However, it is only now that the company has finally confirmed the release date of its stable version.
Nothing OS 4.0 release date
Nothing has confirmed through a post on its community site that the Nothing OS 4.0 rollout will begin tomorrow (November 21). However, the brand hasn’t confirmed which of its phones will be the first to receive the new software.
Currently, the open beta is available for Nothing Phone 3, Phone 2, Phone 3a Pro, Phone 3a, Phone 2a Plus, and Phone 2a, indicating that these will be the first Nothing phones to be treated with Nothing OS 4.0. Likely, the recently unveiled Phone 3a Lite will also be one of the first phones to get the new build. It is also expected to roll out the update to CMF sub-brand phones in the coming days.
Nothing OS 4.0: What to expect?
Since Nothing OS 4.0 is based on Android 16, it will carry all the improvements available on the new Android version, which include enhanced, smarter notifications with auto-grouping and Live Updates, and new desktop-style multitasking for large-screen devices. Additionally, the new Nothing OS version brings in more fluidity and customisations.
Nothing OS 4.0 adds a new AI dashboard that clearly displays which models are active on your device and how frequently they’re used, giving users a transparent look at day-to-day AI activity. The interface receives a calmer, more refined polish with updated lock screen elements, cleaner Quick Settings and an eye-friendly dark mode.
For better multitasking, Nothing OS 4.0 offers a floating Pop-up View for running multiple apps, while camera features gain sharper tools and redesigned controls. Connectivity, brightness controls and the Always-On Display also receive smoother behaviour.
