Planning a getaway? Google can help build your travel itinerary using AI

Summer is synonymous with holidays, and we all have our eyes on the calendar for a much-anticipated escape from the heat (and responsibilities). But before the adrenaline rush comes the stress of planning the itinerary.

While there are always agents to rely on, a lot of us prefer crafting a trip best suited to our needs. Keeping this in mind, Google has only recently introduced a bunch of travel features. Users could already utilise the itinerary tool on Google Maps desktop app to plan their getaways; however, the brand is also rolling out an update for its Search Generative Experience, which will soon allow you to build your itinerary using artificial intelligence. Excited? So are we. Read on more below.

Google AI for travel plans: How will it work?

How the tool essentially works is that it uses inspiration from across websites and crafts your trip plan for you. This also means that it scans through reviews, photos and other details that users across the globe submit to Google before deriving a detailed itinerary.

When you use a prompt such as “Plan a weekend trip to Pondicherry”, Google will give you a sample itinerary with major attractions, restaurants, hotels and even flight details if required. It will further divide these by the total time in the day to give you an hour-by-hour breakup of your trip.

For now, the AI tool will only be able to help you with the standard format, with no option to buy or rent services through it. It also remains to be seen if Google will add more elements to this.

How to build itineraries using Google's AI tool

As of today, only a subset of users from the USA enrolled in the Search Labs program have access to this feature. So far, there are no announcements by the company on whether the model will be rolled out on a large scale. That said, it is currently experimenting with where it can utilise the AI engine. How this pans out might just be something we have to wait for.
