The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra is a device planned for an early 2027 release, but the rumour mill has already begun revealing its details. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, which is expected to launch by the end of February, is tipped to retain some camera hardware from the previous generation. However, a new leak about the S27 Ultra suggests that it will arrive with major upgrades in the camera department.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra camera sensors (rumoured)
Before looking at what the Galaxy S27 Ultra may offer, here is a quick overview of the cameras expected on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. Reports suggest that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will feature the Samsung HP2 200MP main camera, which the brand has previously used on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, S24 Ultra, and S25 Ultra. However, it is said to receive a slight change in aperture, promising improved light intake.
The Samsung JN3 50MP ultra-wide and the Sony IMX854 50MP 5x periscope cameras, introduced on the S25 Ultra, are expected to be carried over to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Rumours also suggest the addition of a brand-new Samsung S5K3LD 50MP 3x telephoto camera. For selfies, the phone may feature a 12MP front camera with a slightly wider focal length.
Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra’s first camera details emerge
According to tipster Ice Universe, Samsung will replace the main, ultra-wide, and selfie cameras on the Galaxy S27 Ultra. While the leak does not mention changes to the periscope camera, it states that the telephoto camera will remain unchanged. The leak does not specify the exact camera sensors.
For the past seven years, Samsung has consistently offered a 5,000mAh battery on its Ultra-branded flagships. This could change next year, as early reports suggest that the Galaxy S27 Ultra may feature a larger battery. However, the exact capacity is not known yet.
