Samsung at its Galaxy Unpacked event today, unveiled one of the most highly anticipated wearable devices of the year – the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic. It also introduced several other new offerings in the Galaxy ecosystem, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 smartphones, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic smartwatches are available in two variants each – the Watch6 with a 40 and 44mm bezel, and the Watch6 Classic with a 43mm and 47mm bezel respectively.

Samsung Galaxy Watch6 key specifications

The Samsung Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic are both offered with a dual-core Samsung Exynos W390 chipset, with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage.

Under the hood, the 40mm and 44mm Galaxy Watch6 are powered by a 300mAh and 425mAh battery respectively. Similarly, the 43mm model and the 47mm model of the Watch6 Classic are also powered by a 300mAh battery and 425mAh battery respectively.

Both devices have WPC-based wireless fast-charging support. Eight minutes of quick charge, according to Samsung, adds up to eight additional hours of usage time. The devices are claimed to have a battery life of up to 30 hours with the always-on display feature turned on, and 40 hours, with the same turned off.

Both the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Ultra come running on the One UI 5-based Samsung Wear OS straight out of the box.

The primary differentiator between the Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Ultra is the rotating bezel offered on the latter.

The bigger 44mm Galaxy Watch6 and the 47mm Watch6 Classic feature a 1.5-inch sapphire crystal Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 480×480 pixels. On the other hand, the smaller models in the Watch6 and Watch6 Classic lineup come with a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display, with a resolution of 432X432 pixels. The displays in all four variants have a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and also feature Always-on capabilities.

Both smartwatches come with an IP68 water and dust resistance rating and can withstand a pressure of up to 5ATM underwater.

Samsung Galaxy Watch6 key features

Fitness, as always has been the case with Samsung’s wearables, has been focused on greatly with the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 series. It features a personalised heart rate zones feature, which while running, analyses and defines running intensity in set levels, to help users set personalised goals for themselves. Additionally, they also feature over 100 custom workout trackers to help users further keep a track on their exercise.

The Watch6 series also comes with advanced sleep tracking capabilities, and provides a numeric score to users on the basis of one’s sleep timings and total duration, the time they remained awake, and so on. It also features designated animal symbols to represent sleep types, to help one understand their own sleep cycles better.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch6 series, besides this, also features impact detection capabilities, which can sense falls whether they occur during exercise, standing still, or even while sleeping. Once detected, the watches automatically dial emergency service numbers as well as pre-approved emergency contacts, allowing users to notify them of any injuries they may have had, and subsequent medical attention they may require.

Further adding to the smartwatches’ utility, is the gesture control feature which allows users to navigate around their device using simple, hands-free gestures, letting them set customised shortcuts and access their most frequently used apps. Not just that. The Samsung Galaxy Watch6 series also comes with a temperature sensor, which, when coupled with the Thermo Check app, allows users to measure the temperature of objects around them, whether food, water bodies, or anything else.

Pricing and availability

The Samsung Galaxy Watch6 40mm variant is available in graphite and gold colours, whereas the 44mm models are available in graphite and silver colours. As for the Watch6 Classic, both the 43mm and 47mm variants of the device are available in black and silver colours.

Details pertaining to the launch dates in India, and other international markets, as well as pricing for the Watch6 and Watch6 Ultra remain under wraps as of now.
