Samsung's best foldable yet in the works?

Galaxy Z Fold 8 promises major upgrades, including a creaseless display and large battery

Samsung is known for launching new foldable phones each year. Next year, the South Korean tech giant is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in July. A report by South Korean publication Dealsite has revealed that the next-generation foldable will arrive with several improvements over its predecessor.

Creaseless expereince

Samsung has been consistently making efforts to bring refinements to its foldable lineup since its inception in 2019. The new report suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will feature a refined hinge design, resulting in a creaseless experience on the internal foldable screen.

The development effort reportedly involves precision laser drilling of metal plates inside the hinge assembly to enhance smoothness and structural consistency. This technology is expected to significantly reduce visible lines on the foldable display.

S Pen support may return

Unlike its predecessors, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 did not support the S Pen, as Samsung removed the S Pen digitiser to achieve a thinner and lighter profile. The new report claims that S Pen support may make a comeback with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, enhancing productivity features and overall user experience on its large foldable screen.

Battery upgrade expected

Another major improvement is said to come in the battery department. While Samsung’s competitors have started offering around 6,000mAh batteries in their foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which debuted a few months ago, packs a 4,272mAh battery. Reports suggest that the upcoming Z Fold 8 may receive a significant battery upgrade, likely exceeding the 5,000mAh mark.

Uncertain timeline for Apple’s foldable iPhone

The same report also states that Apple may not launch its first foldable iPhone until 2027. This delay is attributed to multiple challenges, including the hinge design, which needs to meet Apple’s stringent durability standards before mass production begins.

The extended timeline could give Samsung an opportunity to strengthen its dominance in major markets such as North America, Europe, and Japan.
