While Samsung’s Galaxy Z Trifold that debuted last year is available in limited quantities, the South Korean brand is reportedly working on another foldable to compete against Apple’s iPhone Fold. For those unaware, Samsung’s current foldable phones have a taller aspect ratio. Now industry tipster, Digital Chat Station has shared some key details about Samsung’s wide galaxy foldable.
More details about Samsung's wide foldable phone surface
Samsung’s wide foldable, although name not officially confirmed, is expected to follow Apple’s rumoured wide-folding design. This simply means that it will have a wide aspect ratio and form factor with the device offering a tablet-like experience when unfolded. It’s reminiscent of the original Google Pixel Fold. The wide galaxy fold was spotted in renders in the One UI 9 build last month.
Per DCS, the wide foldable from Samsung will have a 7.6-inch internal screen which is nearly same as the current book-style foldables. However, the most notable thing is that it will have a 4:3 aspect ratio. Under the hood, it will reportedly be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The South Korean brand is tipped to use a dual-cell battery of 2,267 and 2,393mAh totalling to a typical capacity of 4,800mAh.
The tipster adds that Samsung’s wide galaxy fold will be available in the brand’s home market and also in China. However, the exact launch timeline remains a mystery, although we can expect it to debut at the same time alongside the traditional Galaxy Z foldables in the second half of this year.
Apple’s rumoured iPhone Fold is also expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 series in September.
