Say goodbye to video distractions

Spotify now lets you turn off videos for a cleaner listening experience

Spotify has announced a new update aimed at giving users more control over how they experience content on the platform. While the app has increasingly leaned into video features over the years, the latest addition focuses on letting users decide how much of that they actually want to see. The new controls are designed to make listening more intentional and less distracting.

Spotify video controls and what’s new

With this update, Spotify is introducing a set of toggles that allow users to manage how video content appears within the app. Users can now turn off music videos, short looping visuals known as Canvas, and other video formats such as creator clips and video podcasts.

When these options are disabled, the app shifts back to an audio-first experience, even converting supported video content into audio playback. The feature is being rolled out globally and will be available across all plans, including free, Premium, Duo, Family, and Student tiers.

Family plan managers will also get the ability to control video settings for other members, extending a feature that was previously limited to younger accounts. Once configured, these preferences apply across devices, including phones, desktop, web, and TV platforms.

Spotify has indicated that this move comes in response to user feedback, as many listeners prefer a simpler experience focused on music and podcasts rather than visual elements. However, certain elements, such as video ads and some animated visuals in ads, will continue to appear even if video settings are turned off.

How to disable videos on Spotify

Here are steps on how to disable videos on Spotify:

Step 1: Open Spotify and go to Settings, then navigate to Content and display.
Step 2: Find the section for Videos and Canvas, where you will see multiple toggles.
Step 3: Turn off music videos, Canvas, and other video options to switch to an audio-focused experience.
