The seemingly humble mouse pad could be key to your gaming struggles. Sure you have a kickass gaming mouse that weighs next to nothing but costs more than your monitor, but if your aim is still off no matter how much you attempt to fix it, it’s time you changed your mouse pad.

When it comes to mouse pads, what you’re looking for primarily is friction that works for your play style. Too smooth and your mouse might go gliding a bit too far when aiming. Too rough and you’re probably struggling to bring your crosshair on the enemy in time. Another issue is that cheaper mouse pads tend to have inconsistent grain and thus friction, which can also throw off your aim. Here are the best gaming mouse pads for your consideration:
Razer Gigantus
This large, high-density mouse pad is perfect for large desks. It measures 120×55 cm which is sufficient for both your keyboard and your mouse, making it more of a desk mat than plain mouse pad. The base is made from soft, thick rubber that offers plenty of padding and support for your hand, but it’s also firm enough to offer a flat base for your mouse.
The micro fabric surface is very smooth and should offer a good balance of speed or control, but that balance does lean more towards speed.
HyperX Pulsefire Mat
This one is for those who want a smaller mouse pad. Its surface is constructed from densely woven cloth which ensures a smooth and consistent glide while the rubber base has plenty of grip to keep the mouse pad firmly in place as you play. You can pick up the medium sized option with a 45×40 cm base. Larger and smaller variants are also available.
Amkette Falcon X65
On the budget end, you can consider the Amkette Falcon X65. It’s a large desk mat measuring 35×25 cm and is 0.3 cm thick. While not as heavily cushioned as the Razer model, the Falcon does offer full desk coverage, an anti-slip subber base, and a micro-texture surface designed for reducing friction.
Zebronics Blaze
This is a fun one, more focused on bling than precision, but we think it’ll be a great mouse pad for people who just want to have fun with their PC. On the surface, the Zebronics Blaze is a 35×25 cm mouse pad with a hard base and speedy texture. Plug it in, yes, you can do that, and you’ll see the LED lined edges light up in all sorts of funky colours. You get 13 RGB modes to choose from.
Mad Catz G.L.I.D.E. 19
Mad Catz is another pedigreed brand in the world of gaming with a rich history of supporting esports teams and the like. The GLIDE 19 brings that heritage to the masses at a slight premium and offers a liquid resistant mouse pad with a textile surface. The mouse pad surface is buttery smooth and perfect for twitch shooting, while the thin, flexible design makes it very portable.

If possible, we’d recommend trying a few mouse pads first to get an idea of the kind of surface you’d prefer to game on. Once you’re clear on that, pick a size based on your play area and pick a texture that suits your playstyle. Happy gaming!
