Vivo debuts OriginOS 6 worldwide with Android 16 flair

Vivo is officially rolling out OriginOS 6 globally, marking a clean break from its old Funtouch OS and ushering in a fresh era of design and AI-driven intelligence. Based on Android 16, the update is now in beta and will start reaching users in phases from November 2025, beginning with flagship devices. Here’s all you need to know.

OriginOS 6: A fresh look, faster feel

The new interface is built around a visual identity Vivo calls Origin Design, which unifies colour, shape, icons, fonts, and depth for a more cohesive experience. Gone are the cluttered layers and mismatched widgets that long frustrated Funtouch users. In their place are translucent panels, layered shadows, and dynamic lighting effects like Gradual Blur and Dynamic Glow.

Vivo has also introduced a new font dubbed Vivo Sans which supports 40 languages and variable weight adjustment. Under the hood, the Origin Smooth Engine brings tangible performance improvements.

It promises 18.5 per cent faster app launches, 10.5 per cent more stable frame rates, and 106 per cent quicker data loading under heavy workloads. A Dual Rendering Architecture boosts animations by 35 per cent, making transitions appear fluid even during multitasking.

An upgraded 8+1 Ultra-Core Computing System prioritises active tasks to keep the interface responsive, while Memory Fusion keeps more background apps alive. Vivo’s Snap-Up Engine also ensures you don’t miss high-demand moments, such as ticket bookings, by reallocating resources dynamically.

OriginOS 6: AI smarts and seamless living

The biggest leap, however, lies in how AI weaves into daily use. OriginOS 6 introduces Origin Island, which cleverly integrates with Android 16’s Live Updates API to turn the punch-hole camera area into a contextual hub for real-time updates and quick actions. You can ‘Copy & Go’ to instantly message or call, or ‘Drag & Go’ to move photos or files across apps.

Other new tricks include AI Retouch for editing, AI Creation for writing and proofreading, and DocMaster for intelligent PDF and Word editing. There’s also AI Search that supports natural language queries, and AI Captions for real-time transcription and translation.

Vivo claims the update cuts background power use by up to 90mA for heavy users, improving CPU efficiency by 10–20 per cent and extending battery life by roughly 30 minutes. Security has been reworked too, with Private Space for sensitive apps and dual instances for separating work and personal data; all built on the new vivo Security framework.

Cross-device integration has taken a step forward through Office Kit and Connection Center, which allow instant file transfers, screen mirroring, and task handoffs between Vivo phones, PCs, and compatible devices.
