Vivo Y02 review

Easy on your pocket

Vivo Y02 review

Today, the smartphone segment is booming, with brands boasting of devices offering unbeatable specs. Whether you’re looking for a high-end, powerful device or an entry-level smartphone, there’s a good chance you will be spoilt for choice during your search. Vivo’ Y02 is a pocket-friendly addition, which gives you the look and feel of a premium smartphone. We reviewed it for you and have a low-down of what to expect with the brand’s latest addition.

Vivo Y02 look and feel

 Vivo Y02

The Vivo Y02 will surprise you with its lightweight design, matte-finish, frosted plastic body and a large, circular camera. However, it is the chrome accents around the camera which ultimately lend the smartphone its top-end look despite its modest price tag. It comes with a 6.51-inch HD display and a dew-drop notch front camera. Even with its luxurious build, you still may have to put up with a considerable amount of bezels, especially on the top and bottom of the device. That said, we still get metallic edges and curved corners that make up and add to its contemporary appeal.

 Micro USB

On the right-hand side, you have the power and volume buttons that are within a thumb’s reach to facilitate convenience. At the top, you can find the loudspeaker. The smartphone still uses a micro-USB port, which may seem a tad disappointing to some – but we suggest cutting it slack, of course, owing to its price range.

Vivo Y02 camera and performance

Vivo Y02 is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 chipset. It offers 2GB RAM and 32GB of storage, which is a low even if you dismiss it for being an entry-level smartphone. Equipped with FunTouchOS, there’s also a good chance that you might have to battle a bit of bloatware.

Vivo Y02 offers decent quality for those who want a basic setup featuring an 8MP rear and 5MP front camera. It is not heavy on modes and works best if you have dialled down expectations over low-lit shots. Daylight shots turned out acceptable, and while some did offer a washed-out quality, they still managed to capture colours with the right amount of saturation.

Vivo Y02 battery life

The smartphone promises an incredible battery life with its 5,000mAh battery capacity. On its best day, the Vivo Y02 can easily last 20 hours. With minimal usage, we could use the phone for two entire days without having to plug it into a socket – and we’re not complaining!

Verdict

Vivo’s new entrant is an excellent purchase if you’re looking for a secondary or starter phone that is not very spec-heavy. In fact, if your primary requirements involve communication and basic camera usage, there couldn’t be a better smartphone to get you started. But it is best to note that you might require good lighting conditions to achieve the perfect shot.

Vivo Y02 delivers the right amount of style quotient within its stipulated price bracket, but 2GB RAM is barely sufficient – even for those who wish to switch between multiple apps. However, it shines with its long-lasting battery life and doesn’t disappoint you if you’re looking to go without powering up through the day.
