Vivo has just unveiled its new Y400 5G smartphone. This is a mid-range contender packing a large battery and rugged waterproofing. Let’s dive straight into the specs, starting with that power unit.
The phone boasts a 6,000mAh battery crammed into a slim 0.79 cm frame, which supports 90W FlashCharge that promises to juice the phone from nearly empty to 50 per cent in about 20 minutes. It even includes bypass charging to keep the device cool during long gaming sessions.
Everything you'd need and then some
The new Vivo phone also piggybacks on the durability trend, boasting both IP68 and IP69 ratings – something usually reserved for top-tier flagships. This means it can theoretically survive a dunk in water up to two metres deep for 30 minutes.
The visual experience is built around a large 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen. It features a 120Hz refresh and a peak brightness of 1,800 nits. The display also has an SGS Eye Protection certification to go easy on your eyes. To complete the media package, Vivo added dual stereo speakers that can hit a claimed 400 percent volume boost.

Driving everything is the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, a modern 4nm processor. This is paired with 8GB of physical RAM that can be supplemented by another 8GB of extended RAM, ensuring multitasking stays fluid. Vivo also claims its software optimisation will keep the experience smooth for up to 50 months.
For photography, the Y400 5G relies on a 50MP Sony IMX852 main sensor. The real party trick, however, is the underwater photography mode. It cleverly lets you use the physical buttons to snap photos, reels, and even slow-motion video since touchscreens get wonky underwater. Upfront, a 32MP camera handles selfies.
Vivo is also pushing a suite of new AI tools for productivity. These include features like AI Transcript Assist for summarising audio files and AI Note Assist for organising your thoughts.
The Vivo Y400 5G hits store shelves in India on August 7. The 8GB/128GB model is priced at Rs 21,999 while the 8GB/256GB version will cost Rs 23,999. It will be available through major online retailers and various partner offline stores across the country.
