What is a Neo-QLED TV?

Let's talk about this not-so-often discussed piece of tech

What is a Neo-QLED TV?

The TV market has been constantly evolving, and every so often we hear a new terminology which is supposed to be the next big thing. In this situation, you as a consumer need to be aware of the happenings to make an informed purchasing decision. One such new term is Neo QLED. So what is it, and why should you know about it? Well, read on.

What is Neo QLED?
It is an iteration of the conventional QLED TV. The Neo QLED TV uses the same fundamentals as the QLED TV. It too uses a backlight which goes through a layer of Quantum dots which in turn produce their own light and colour. Where the differentiation arises is that instead of using LED backlight, Neo QLED TV uses a mini-LED. This allows for fitting in more of these in the same area thus it can have more dimming zones and better control of the entire panel of the TV. This tech still uses the Liquid Crystal layer in it thus it is basically an LCD panel. The term Neo QLED is basically used by Samsung for their mini-LED-based TVs.

Advantages of Neo QLED
1) It is brighter than an OLED TV. Both Neo QLED and traditional QLED TV can reach a max brightness of 2,000 nits.

2) Since Neo QLED TV has more dimming zones, it can produce sharper images than QLED.

3) The ability to control more areas of the TV lets Neo QLED produce images with more contrast, better blacks, and with significantly reduced halo effect in comparison to the traditional QLED TV.

4) One of the greatest advantages of both QLED and Neo QLED is that you won’t witness screen burn-in in them, unlike OLED.
