WhatsApp finally arrives on Apple Watch with message replies, voice notes, and calls

Meta has officially announced the arrival of a fully functional WhatsApp companion experience on the Apple Watch. The rollout of the standalone app brings expanded chat controls directly to the wrist, allowing users to stay connected without relying on their iPhones. Here’s everything you need to know about WhatsApp for Apple Watch.

WhatsApp on Apple Watch: All the key features

WhatsApp on Apple Watch allows users to read entire messages on their wrist, including lengthy conversations that previously required checking the phone. The app also introduces quick responses using dictation, emojis, and preset replies.

Further, users can also record and send voice notes directly from the watch, making short chats faster and more convenient. The updated interface enhances clarity for images and stickers while displaying more chat history than the earlier notification-based experience.

Call notifications are also supported, allowing users to see who is calling without lifting their iPhone. Meta confirms that end-to-end encryption remains active on the Apple Watch version, ensuring that personal messages and calls stay protected.

However, a few limitations remain. Users cannot initiate voice or video calls directly from the watch, nor can they start new chats or check status updates. These features may arrive later, as Meta has hinted at future updates.

WhatsApp app on Apple Watch: How to install

To install WhatsApp on your Apple Watch, follow these steps:

  1. Update WhatsApp on your iPhone via the App Store.
  2. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  3. Scroll to Available Apps and tap Install next to WhatsApp.
  4. Open WhatsApp on your Apple Watch and complete the sign-in process.
  5. Ensure Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity is active for standalone use.

The launch follows WhatsApp’s expansion across Apple products. Earlier this year, the service introduced a dedicated iPad app that supports calling, screen sharing and multi-device features, bringing the platform closer to full cross-device consistency.
